Larry P. Arnn

Larry P. Arnn became the twelfth president of Hillsdale College in 2000. He received his B.A. from Arkansas State University and his M.A. and Ph.D. in government at the Claremont Graduate School. He studied as well at the London School of Economics and at Worcester College, Oxford University, where he served as director of research for the late Sir Martin Gilbert, the official biographer of Winston Churchill. From 1985-2000, Dr. Arnn was president of the Claremont Institute for the Study of Statesmanship and Political Philosophy. In 1996, he was the founding chairman of the California Civil Rights Initiative, a voter-approved ballot proposal that barred race-based quotas in state admissions, employment and contracting. Published widely on issues of public policy and political theory, he is a member of the board of trustees of the Heritage Foundation and of the board of directors of the Henry Salvatori Center of Claremont McKenna College, the Philadelphia Society, the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, and the Claremont Institute. He is the author of three books: Liberty and Learning: The Evolution of American Education; The Founders’ Key: The Divine and Natural Connection between the Declaration and the Constitution and What We Risk by Losing It; and Churchill’s Trial: Winston Churchill and the Salvation of Free Government. In 2015, Dr. Arnn received the Bradley Prize from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation.
